Al is a lifelong resident of the City of Greater Sudbury, born raised and educated here. He has witnessed the City evolve from a Hard Rock mining town to one of international prominence and stature.

Al retired from a career with the city where he started as a Zamboni driver  in one of the local rinks and worked his way through the ranks to the Manager, Cemetery Services for the City of Greater Sudbury. During his time working for the City Al worked with so many volunteer groups who helped Al more fully realize the importance of the “Volunteer” to this city. While employed with the city, Al returned to Laurentian University on a part time basis, graduating with a degree in Political Science.

Married to Simone (Laframboise), they have two grown sons, Michael and Ian. They have one granddaughter, Tessa.
